Every child deserves to be seen.

Sub-Saharan Africa has virtually no disability care infrastructure. We're doing something about it.

It's not that the need doesn't exist. The children are there. The diagnoses are going unmade. The interventions that could change their lives simply aren't available.

Butterfly Collaborative has made disability care a distinct and growing program within our work. In May 2026, we will screen 500 children for developmental and disability-related conditions one of the largest initiatives of its kind in our region of operation.

We work with physical therapists, occupational therapists, and developmental specialists who bring both clinical expertise and cultural humility to this work.

Occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, developmental pediatrics, autism assessment and support are essentially absent across much of sub-Saharan Africa.

If you or your organization works in disability care and wants to put your skills where they're needed most, we want to hear from you.

A young child lying on a colorful patterned blanket and a white sheet, wearing a gray knit hat and a light yellow t-shirt with small holes, looking upward with an open mouth.
Three colorful butterflies: one large blue, one medium yellow, and one small orange, all with open wings.

We don't pretend that a Western model of care transplants cleanly. We build something that works for the community we're in.

What we do:

  • Developmental screening and assessment for children in ultra-vulnerable populations

  • Physical and occupational therapy in mobile and clinic settings

  • Autism spectrum evaluation and family support

  • Training local health workers in disability identification and basic intervention
